Gerald A. Bates has been practicing law since 1968.  In the last 30 years, he has handled hundreds of private placement, agency and interstate adoptions.  He has conducted seminars for attorneys and adoptive parents in the Dallas/Fort Worth area for many years.

Mr. Bates received a B.A. from the University of Texas at Arlington and a J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law.  He served in the Navy as a JAG officer.  

In addition to being a member of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys, he is a member of the Texas Bar Association and the Tarrant County Bar Association.


As special counsel to the Rutherford Institute, Mr. Bates has appeared before the Texas Legislature discussing topics such as abortion and prayer in the public schools.  His testimony before a Senate committee was instrumental in the adoption of the Texas parental consent law.

Mr. Bates is a teaching elder at his church in Arlington.  He has three children and two grandchildren.
